Understanding the Cloud

You may have heard terms like iCloud, Google Drive, or cloud storage, but what exactly is "the cloud"? The cloud is a way of storing your photos, documents, and other information on secure computers accessed through the internet.

☁️ What Is Cloud Storage?

Normally, files can be stored directly on your phone, tablet, or computer. Cloud storage allows you to save a copy of your files online instead.

Popular examples include Apple iCloud, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox.

📸 Keep Your Photos Safe

Cloud services can automatically back up photos and videos from your phone. If your device is lost, damaged, or replaced, you may still be able to access your photos and videos by signing into your account on another device.

📱 Access Files on Different Devices

One of the biggest advantages of the cloud is convenience. For example, you could save a document on your computer and later access it from your phone or tablet using the same account.

🔄 Moving to a New Device

Getting a new phone doesn't always mean starting from scratch! A cloud backup can make it easier to transfer things such as your photos, contacts, settings, and other information to your new device.

🔐 Is the Cloud Safe?

Cloud services have security measures to protect your information, but your account still needs to be protected. Use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication when available.

Never give someone your password or verification code, even if they claim to be from a company you recognize.

Check whether your photos are actually backed up!

Having iCloud or Google Photos on your phone doesn't necessarily mean everything has been backed up. Check your backup settings occasionally and make sure you have enough available cloud storage.
